How to Make Your Own Free Email Website

How to Make Your Own Free Email Website thumbnailMany free and convenient email services exist, but sometimes it's nice to have your own private free email website. This might be especially helpful if you are starting a club online and you would like to keep track of the members and unify them by giving them free email under the same domain. You can also create a free email service for your family and friends or for anyone that would like an email address that isn't part of a big corporate website.

Instructions

    • 1
      Purchase a domain and hosting package from a domain registrar and hosting service such as "Blue Host," "Go Daddy" or "1 and 1." Make sure that the hosting package you purchase allows for an infinite amount of email accounts and a control panel.
    • 2
      Log in to your control panel (http://yourdomain.com/cpanel) with the user name and password that you signed up with when you purchased your hosting. Click on the button that says "Email Accounts" and set up your own email account with your name (webmaster@yourdomain.com).
    • 3
      Click on the "File Manager" button in your control panel and create the "index.html" file. This file will be the page that people see when they go to "yourdomain.com." Use this code to set it up:
      <html>
      <head>
      <title>My Free Email Site</title>
      </head>
      <body>
      The viewable content.
      </body>
      </html>
      This is the basic framework of your web page. The title tags will display the title in the top of your browser.

      Go to a website that has a free email form generator such as "MyContactForm.com" or "Response-O-Matic.com," sign up for a free account and go through the steps provided. Make a form that will make it easy for people to sign up for an email account on your site. Make sure that you provide a text area where they can provide the user name and password that they want for their email accounts.
    • 5
      Copy and paste the code for the form you created (provided by the form generator) between the body tags of your site index. When people fill out the form, the information they provide will be emailed to you. Jazz up the look of the site with CSS (see Resource 3) and graphics. You should also provide an introduction at the top of the page.

      Set up a new email address when someone emails you with the user name and password that they want for his email account. Log into your control panel and click on the "Email Accounts" button. Type his user name and password in the appropriate text fields and click "Create Account".

      Email the person who signed up for the account with the web address where he can log in to his email account (mail.yourdomain.com). Give him your email address so that he has someone to contact if he has any questions or concerns.
